Mission: To use student education, needs assessment, design innovation, and social entrepreneurship to improve access to health care in underdeveloped communities.

Overview: Founded in 2006, M-HEAL (Michigan Health Engineered for All Lives) is a student organization at the University of Michigan that fosters interdisciplinary work in global health, design, and entrepreneurship. We engage students from various backgrounds in these efforts through guest lectures, interactive workshops, and volunteer opportunities. We support project teams as they develop health care solutions and as they travel abroad to work with international partners. In all of our activities, we focus on our core goals:

  • EDUCATION: Increase understanding of global issues and inspire students to step beyond the classroom to address health disparities

  • SERVICE: Volunteer with local and international organizations

  • COLLABORATION: Build partnerships with international, local, and university organizations and communities

  • DEVELOPMENT: Co-design appropriate, innovative solutions for health care challenges

  • SUSTAINABILITY: Implement solutions as social enterprises or other sustainable ventures

Vision: M-HEAL strives to cultivate a well-informed, creative, and collaborative community prepared to make a positive impact for global health.  We envision a world where every person has access to appropriate, affordable, and high-quality health care.

Constitution and By-Laws: M-HEAL is listed as a Sponsored Student Organization (SSO) at the University of Michigan. The current constitution was approved in October 2012.
